Training Program ACLS
Advanced Cardiac Life Support
The ACLS training course, based on the standards set by the American Heart Association (AHA), is intended for healthcare professionals and aims to develop the essential skills required to effectively manage advanced cardiovascular emergencies, including cardiac arrest and severe cardiac dysfunction.
Target Audience:
All healthcare professionals, whether hospital-based or community-based (e.g. nurses, doctors), who require training in the management of advanced cardiovascular emergencies.
Terms and conditions of access
The number of trainees is limited to 12 people during the same session, respecting the ratio of 1 instructor for 6 participants.
Entry Requirements and Conditions:
Possession of a Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate or any equivalent document demonstrating proficiency in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED);
Completion of the online pre-test available on the AHA website (in English only). A tutorial is provided for individuals who may face difficulties with the training language.
Training Location:
AMARANTE Académie operates several training centres across Europe, particularly in France and Belgium. The training can also be delivered at a location selected by the client, including international venues, provided the site meets the training requirements.
Duration and Delivery:
The ACLS course runs over 3 consecutive days, for a total of 21 hours, and is delivered exclusively in-person. Each training day lasts up to 8 hours.
Objectives (Skills and Competencies Aimed For):
The core aim of the ACLS training is to optimise patient care during the first 10 minutes following a cardiac arrest or a critical cardiocirculatory event, whether occurring inside or outside a hospital setting.
The specific learning objectives include:
- Performing high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR);
- Identifying and addressing the causes of cardiac arrest;
- Recognising and managing peri-arrest rhythms;
- Developing the competencies needed to manage all cardiac emergencies and communicate effectively with emergency services.
Content, Programme, Modules and Units:
The ACLS course content adheres to the official programme of the American Heart Association, a leading authority on reducing disability and mortality due to cardiovascular disease and stroke. The ACLS certification is internationally recognised and valid for 2 years.
Key topics covered include:
- Reading and interpreting heart rhythms (ECG), including in emergencies;
- Recognition and treatment of life-threatening clinical conditions;
- ACLS systematic approach to patient management;
- Cardiac arrest and peri-arrest protocols;
- Pharmacology;
- Assessment and stabilisation of trauma patients;
- Advanced airway management;
- Mechanical ventilation;
- IV/IO access;
- Transcutaneous pacing;
- Electrical cardioversion;
- Acute myocardial infarction and stroke;
- Final integrated simulation (“Mega Code”).
For participants who do not meet the ACLS prerequisites, AMARANTE offers First Aid or BLS (Basic Life Support) training. In this case, the total course length increases by 2 additional days (16 hours), preceding the 3-day ACLS course – resulting in a 5-day, 40-hour training programme.
Certifications Included in This Programme:
- American Heart Association (AHA): This course is fully aligned with the AHA’s official training standards;
- European Resuscitation Council (ERC): Our CPR modules comply with ERC guidelines.
Assessment Methods:
- Initial placement test at the beginning of the course;
- Practical final assessment to validate acquired knowledge.
Monitoring and Quality Assurance:
- Attendance sheets (or digital login records);
- Daily progress and objectives tracking;
- Course evaluation form to be completed by each participant;
- Certificate of attendance issued by the American Heart Association upon completion.
