Algeria

Algeria is a Maghreb country bordered to the east by Tunisia and Libya, to the south by Niger and Mali, and to the west by Mauritania, Western Sahara and Morocco. It is both the largest country in Africa, and the tenth largest in the world. Algeria's past was marked by the "black decade" of the 1990s, which was followed by a phase of socio-political stabilisation and hydrocarbon-fuelled economic development. Despite a return to the constitutional framework in 2019 after the election of Abdelmadjid Tebboune as head of state, following the Hirak protest movement and the resignation of President Bouteflika, Algeria has experienced a severe economic downturn. Since 2021, however, the country has returned to growth, notably due to the rise in hydrocarbon prices and the recovery of tourism on a global scale, factors that could make it a land of opportunity once again.
