Negotiating in kidnapping and hostage-taking situations
This training course is intended for members of crisis management units who have to represent their company when confronted by abductors.
Concerns of the people involved
Whether it is triggered by political or economic reasons, hostage-taking involves negotiations where the company has to participate in one way or another.
Whatever the nationality of the hostages, political hostage-taking will be handled by the State services of the countries concerned, leaving the company with a secondary role.
However, hostage-taking for financial reasons will be handled by the company if it takes the initiative or if the State considers that the situation comes within the company's legal responsibilities. In the context of these negotiations, companies are often assisted by security professionals (negotiators).
Some company managers therefore have a central role in negotiation proceedings as a "negotiation intermediary". The successful outcome of the negotiation partly depends on the training that these executives have received.
Training objective
The aim of this training course is to prepare future "negotiation intermediaries" for the challenges of a negotiation and to make them understand their place and role in the whole process.
